City & Country colleagues support the Great British Beach Clean

In September, City & Country colleagues have been supporting the Great British Beach Clean, which took place between 16th – 25th September 2022, by sending teams of volunteers to help clean up stretches of beach close to their housing developments.

Teams of five headed out to St Oysth Beach, a short distance from St Osyth Priory, and Mersea Island Beach, a five-minute walk from Sanderling Reach.

The volunteers were collecting litter to support the week long event, which encourages people across the country to help clean their local beaches. Last year, volunteers were able to remove more than 5,000 kilograms of rubbish from UK beaches, showing the considerable impact that events like this can have.

The results of the annual clean up help to make to make a positive impact on the ocean alongside other initiatives such as the introduction of the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling, and supporting a tax on single-use plastic items.

Lee Fraser, Marketing Manager at City & Country, was one of the volunteers who took part. He said: “We’ve all got a role to play, no matter how big or how small, in helping the environment to thrive. These two beautiful beaches are major attractions for our residents and the local community, and keeping them clean is vitally important, so we were more than happy to lend a hand and support the campaign.”
