Who we are

Our History
Over Six Decades of Craft and Care
From family roots to national recognition
Founded over 60 years ago as a family business, City & Country began with a simple belief: that homes should be built to last, with a deep respect for their setting. From those early days, we have grown steadily, expanding our expertise from local projects in Essex to landmark developments across the country.
Our history is marked by a series of pioneering restorations, from transforming Victorian asylums into sought-after apartments to breathing new life into Grade I and Grade II listed buildings. Along the way, we’ve introduced new-build homes designed with the same sensitivity and attention to detail as our heritage work.

"Today, our reputation is built on trust, craft and a proven ability to create places where people genuinely want to live. While we continue to innovate and adapt, our heritage remains our foundation – guiding every decision we make and ensuring the City & Country name stands for quality, authenticity and lasting value."
Tim Sargeant - Chairman, City & Country Group
