Inspiring Young Minds Through Outdoor Learning
A hands‑on gardening experience helps children connect with nature at Manningtree Park
Children from Little Pumpkins Nursery in Manningtree recently took part in a hands‑on outdoor learning experience at City & Country’s Manningtree Park development. The visit featured a seed planting workshop led by renowned Children’s Gardening Coach and former Blue Peter presenter Lee Connelly.
The activity was designed to encourage young children to connect with nature, giving them the opportunity to explore the open green spaces at Manningtree Park while learning how plants grow. Guided by Lee, the children created seed bombs and discovered the importance of gardening, gaining a deeper appreciation for the natural world as spring begins to bloom.
The session promoted curiosity, teamwork and sensory exploration, as children enjoyed getting their hands in the soil and learning about caring for plants and the environment.
The visit marks the beginning of a new collaboration between City & Country and Lee Connelly, aimed at inspiring people of all ages to engage with nature through a series of activities at Manningtree Park.
Katie Turner, Manager at Little Pumpkins Nursery, commented: “We’re always looking for meaningful ways to bring learning to life, and this experience has been incredibly valuable for our children. Watching them engage with nature so confidently and joyfully has been wonderful, and we will continue to encourage this attitude back at the nursery. We’re very grateful to Lee and the City & Country team for the opportunity.”
Lee Connelly added: “It’s so important to give young children the opportunity to connect with nature from an early age. Activities like seed planting help young children to understand where foods and plants come from. Seeing their excitement throughout the visit is one of the reasons I chose this career, creating these moments that inspire a lifelong love for gardening.”
Shelley West, Group Sales & Marketing Director at City & Country, said: “At City & Country, we’re committed to creating communities that encourage wellbeing, connection and time spent outdoors. It’s been a pleasure to welcome Little Pumpkins Nursery and host such a positive, educational experience for the children in Manningtree.”
Manningtree Park, City & Country’s flagship development in Manningtree, Essex, features expansive green space alongside community amenities such as a play area and dog walking space, all designed to support an active and connected lifestyle.
