A Return to Kingswood: Former Employee Brings Business Back to Historic Surrey Landmark

Thirty-four years after leaving the former Legal & General headquarters in Tadworth, Prash Patel has returned to Kingswood as joint CEO of Nurses Next Door, becoming one of the first occupiers within City & Country's regeneration of the iconic site.

The Grade II-listed Kingswood development was formerly Legal & General’s headquarters, where Prash worked as a pensions analyst between 1990 and 1992.

Legal & General closed their office in 2018. After acquiring the site in September 2025, developer City & Country submitted plans to transform it into a mixed-use development featuring 122 retirement properties, 177 private apartments, commercial office space and a sports club.

When the Kingswood offices appeared in an online search for a new headquarters, Redhill resident Prash didn't hesitate in choosing the location as the base for his homecare services company.

Prash says: “The 10-year-lease on our company building was due to end in June this year. I couldn’t believe it when the Kingswood development came up. I remember telling my old colleagues that I’d be back, and it seemed that this could become a reality.

“Seeing it restored to its former glory is really exciting. I took the splendour of the building for granted when I was younger, but I do remember it being immaculate. The shops have obviously come and gone, but it is nice to see The Kingswood Arms still standing. I had my own leaving do there, and the bar is exactly as I remember it.”

“You couldn’t ask for a better setting for prospective partners and customers to visit. The building is so impressive, and we are proud to be there.”

City & Country has been seeking occupiers for existing office space within the central part of the building, which will remain as offices as part of their proposals. The planning application to transform the rest of the post-modernist building and wider site was submitted in March 2026.

Hannah Short, Senior Planning Manager at City & Country, comments: “Kingswood is an incredible development and a remarkable setting for business headquarters and offices.

“Subject to the granting of planning permission, we hope to begin works on the site in 2027 and anticipate residents beginning to move into their new homes and the wider community in Kingswood to enjoy the additional facilities in 2028.”

The proposals also include the restoration of important heritage features, including conversion of the rotunda and courtyards into communal space and the former staff leisure facilities into a new private members’ sports club, which will also include a new outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, spa and restaurant.

In addition to this, the wider plans for the regeneration of the former Legal & General headquarters include landscaping improvements and a new lake, which will allow for a thriving habitat for wildlife.

The CEO of Nurse Next Door, who now occupies three of the office spaces, continues: “We are on a two-year short-term lease. I wanted to sign up for 10 years because we plan to remain here as Kingswood continues to evolve. The plan to create residential flats specifically for the elderly aligns perfectly with our business. We will literally be the nurses right next door!”

Kingswood is located in the heart of Tadworth, Surrey, with local amenities nearby including shops, pubs and a golf club. Kingswood station offers excellent connections directly into London.
