Who Needs Sydney When You Have Bristol? It’s All About The Lifestyle For Nic And Dorian

Living in Sydney since the 1990s, Nic George and Dorian Staples love the vibrant outdoor lifestyle that so many Australians enjoy.

But due to increasing work commitments throughout Europe, coupled with long distance travel, they needed a permanent base back in the UK.

They were keen not to lose the superb quality of life they enjoy in Sydney and knew Bristol could offer them a similarly active lifestyle.

“We grew up in Bristol and moved to Australia in the late 90s. We both work in Information Technology and in recent years we’ve been working a lot in Europe and wanted a local base. Living in Sydney you get used to an outdoor lifestyle and excellent food. We love being by the water and we like to be able to walk to good cafés and shops.” says Nic.

The couple bought an apartment at The General, the converted Grade II* listed former general hospital, which is flanked by the Bathurst Basin and the cut of the River Avon. The location is perfect for them. The General offers the best of city centre living combined with an active lifestyle for the couple.

Nic explains:

“I am a runner and love to run most days. From our property there are so many great running routes off road, I have one small road to cross and can run up to 12 miles one way on lovely green pathways. I’ve lived in many locations in Bristol and never had such a green route on my doorstep. We’re also foodies and appreciate fine dining. We now have Casamia on Lower Guinea Street and many other lovely eateries close by.

“We have plenty of Yo Bikes in the area and if the weather is not good there are many gyms close by. Temple Meads Train station is a 10 minute walk and next to it is a local business park that we hope to work in one day – it would be great to walk to work!”
