Relocators find perfect lockdown retreat minutes from the coast

After years of renting in Loughton, west Essex, Martin Dear and his partner Kalene decided it was time to purchase together. With both of their adult daughters having recently moved out, the couple were looking for a low maintenance home in a peaceful location that would allow them to enjoy a slower paced, more relaxed lifestyle, which they found at St Osyth Priory by City & Country.

Staying in Essex was one of Martin’s main priorities, and he was able to persuade Kalene to sell her home in Surrey, moving north east to the beautiful coastal county in search of the lifestyle they desired. Once they found St Osyth Priory, they were instantly attracted by the mix of green space, rich history, waterside location, and proximity to London, the couple were eager to find out more.

Martin commented: “We had been planning on moving for a while and it was crucial to make sure we found the lifestyle offering that suited our needs. From the moment we visited St Osyth Priory, we knew it was for us. I could really get the sense of history associated with the development, which combined with the surrounding grounds, really stood out”.

Located adjacent to the Colne Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest, the new homes at St Osyth Priory are set within beautiful, historic parkland, where a wide variety of livestock roam, as well as the estate’s iconic white deer herd and rare breed livestock, such as Hebridean sheep and English Longhorn cattle.

With a history spanning over 1,400 years, the St Osyth Priory Estate is of national significance, making it one of the county’s hidden gems. Alongside the Registered Park and Garden, it boasts 16 separate Grade I, Grade II* and Grade II listed buildings and numerous Scheduled Ancient Monuments, creating a truly special environment to call home.

Martin added: “Having the chance to live in an area with such a vibrant history was something we were both excited by. The new homes tie in well with the surrounding area, and it gives the homes a sense of importance and belonging.”

Martin and Kalene moved into their new home in December, and after the national lockdown confined them to spending their first few months largely within the surrounding area, they had plenty of opportunities to explore the breath-taking scenery, picturesque villages and coastal walks.

Martin added: “St Osyth Priory has totally exceeded my expectations. The grounds are just beautiful, waking up to the wildlife and going for peaceful walks along the coast has been amazing”.

And whilst Martin and Kalene have enjoyed their lockdown experience thanks to the idyllic location and unique proposition at St Osyth Priory, they are now excited for what the future holds and can’t wait to show off their new home to friends and family.

“We’re so excited to show the girls the house when they come to visit. We have two spare rooms so we can easily accommodate them. The day we get to go for a walk around the historic grounds and take it all in together will be a special moment”.
