Having owned a home previously, Tom Marshall knew exactly what he wanted in his next property – and more specifically what he didn’t. The 38-year-old was keen to set down roots in a vibrant area, but he wanted a newly built home, which is why he chose Factory No.1 in Bedminster, Bristol.

The development, by heritage developer City & Country, is at the gateway to one of Bristol’s most popular areas, with residents surrounded by local amenities and just a short walk to the city centre and Bristol Temple Meads train station.

Discussing his new home, Tom, a litigator, said: “I moved to Bristol from London eight years ago, and have been renting in Clifton Wood most recently. I have owned in the past and was waiting on the equity to be released from my previous place to come through before I could buy something new. I started looking back in September 2019, knowing that I wanted somewhere near to friends I had in the city, as well as proximity to Bristol City FC and Bristol Bears Rugby Clubs, where I hold season tickets. I also liked the idea of a turnkey property – a new build which I can simply move my stuff into and be done instead of having to redo a dodgy bathroom or paint over someone else’s taste in wall colour.”

“I first visited Factory No.1 back in January 2020, and was shown the renovation properties in Consort House. I really liked it, and the sales staff were friendly and understanding of my situation. I viewed a few more properties after that, including older homes, but I kept comparing everything to Factory No.1, so I went back just two weeks later. I was shown the plans for the new build apartments in Tobacco Store and knew that it was where I wanted to be, so I put an offer in on an apartment off-plan.”

Tom says of his new home: “I haven’t had to compromise on a thing being here. My one-bedroom apartment is perfect for my needs. The internal space is great, it has a nice balcony, and overlooks the area’s colourful buildings and the Wills Memorial. Despite being in the middle of the city, I don’t feel closed in at all – the courtyard is very quiet, an oasis within the bustle of Bristol.”

“Bedminster has changed so much in the few years that I’ve lived here, and I’m really excited to be a part of it now. It’s such a draw having all the amenities on my doorstep – pubs, restaurants, independent shops – it’s no wonder I’m seeing more and more people move here from London.”
