Love At First Sight For First Time Buyer At The Garden Quarter

As soon as first time buyer Kristy Walton visited The Garden Quarter she knew she had found the perfect place for her new home.

Located on the site of the former RAF Bicester domestic quarters, the development blends restored military buildings with an attractive range of newly built homes. Kristy, a midwife, decided to buy one of the new three bedroom homes. These have been designed to add another layer of history to the site and to sit harmoniously with the historic buildings.

She comments:

“We bought one of the new build houses on the development because as soon as I saw it, I fell in love with it. We love the fact that it’s quirky and that everything is finished to a very high specification. It’s large enough with three bedrooms and it’s good quality. I enjoy the nice, separate kitchen, the wooden floors downstairs and the underfloor heating is great. I also like the bright, airy windows and we can relax in the south facing garden.”

The new build homes incorporate specific Art Deco detailing, including intricate brickwork and the replication of cast stone string courses, whilst internally space and light is found in abundance, with floor-to-ceiling glazing to both floors. Each property also has access to a private first floor terrace off of the master bedroom and a rear garden.

Meanwhile original buildings already restored include a WWII era decontamination bunker, an electrical substation and the base’s former power station, and this blend of old and new particularly appealed to Kristy, who continues:

“I like that The Garden Quarter is an RAF site that’s been restored, rather than just flattened and rebuilt, and that City & Country kept the original character. They have kept all of the original buildings and there’s a lot of greenery and plants that always look nice and well maintained. Each property is done with the others in mind with similar features like sympathetic colours, selection of doors and the interiors and exteriors. It’s nice that they haven’t tried to take away the original windows and the old doors.”

Kristy particularly liked the amount of outdoor space afforded to each home. She explains:

“There is a lot of space here, unlike with other new build developments, and that space creates privacy and we’re not overlooked. I’d definitely recommend City & Country because I've never seen another new build or refurbished property with such good quality. Whenever we dealt with them everything was always done quickly and efficiently, and they were always there and happy to answer our questions.”

With an all-inclusive specification and fully maintained grounds, these unique homes are ready to move into now and offer a secluded, low maintenance lifestyle, with quick access to local towns and the cities of Oxford and London.
