Downsizer Buys Second Property at King Edward VII Estate
Georgina Walters originally bought an apartment at the King Edward VII Estate to use as a second home as it was close to Cowdray Park, where her daughter plays polo.
At the time Georgina was splitting her time between West Sussex and Hertfordshire, where she had lived in her family home for some 20 years and commuted into London for work.
However, with less reason to be in London and both her children having fled the nest, she decided it was time to downsize from the family property, and buy a second apartment at the Estate. She explains:
“Previously I had more work commitments in London, so it made sense to be in Hertfordshire. Now that I do more consultancy work I can work from anywhere. My son got married this year and my daughter travels a lot with her work, so I decided it was a good time to sell the family home. Selling the family house was definitely for lifestyle reasons; downsizing made sense and I wanted something different. I love spending time at King Edward’s, so decided to buy a second, larger property.”
Georgina, who also rides and keeps horses locally, bought a second apartment, retaining her first property for use by friends and family. Having lived at King Edward VII Estate for a year she had seen many of the new apartments as they were being created and eventually decided on a two bedroom property with views of the South Downs and the Grade II* Listed chapel. She says:
“Having lived here for a year, I’ve seen many of the new apartments being developed. I decided on a bigger property with fabulous views over the Downs to the front and the chapel to the rear. I’ll keep my current one bedroom apartment for use by my daughter as well as friends and other family when they come to visit. I love the new apartment which has very high ceilings, a large open plan living space and a huge balcony, with two beds and two bathrooms.”
As further residents move into the Estate Georgina has seen a sociable atmosphere develop, with neighbours arranging events and get-togethers. As a lover of the outdoors, she’s also taken advantage of the gardens and the rolling countryside that surrounds the Estate, as well as exploring the surrounding towns and villages. She says:
“Everyone at the Estate is so friendly. In the time I’ve lived here I’ve seen many more people move in, and there is a very sociable atmosphere with a number of informal gatherings organised between neighbours. The gardens are looking lovely, and when the walks are opened up into the woodland it will be fantastic. For anyone who enjoys the outdoors and walking then this is a super spot. Fantastic location, a beautiful building and lovely gardens – I love it!”
