Celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Factory No.1
When Haslemere native Ian Hook decided to return to the town as a retiree, the 62-year-old was thrilled when he realised that apartments were still available at City & Country’s King Edward VII Estate – the majestic Grade II* listed former hospital near Midhurst, West Sussex.
He explains: “I have family in Haslemere and my parents live in Chicester, plus I have friends locally, so when the need to move arose the decision to return to my home town was simple. I had been aware of King Edward VII Estate for some time, but thought it was sold out. When I realised otherwise, I quickly popped to site to have a look. The development struck a chord at the right time – I was looking elsewhere but nothing came close to what was on offer here.”
Speaking about his new home, Ian says: “My second-floor apartment has the most amazing views out across the South Downs and the Estate’s restored chapel, which was one of the major selling points for me. The large living room, with its two sets of French doors opening onto the balcony, was so impactful that I instantly fell in love with it. The three bedrooms and high ceilings give me so much space that I don’t feel like I’ve downsized.
“Being retired I am travelling more and more, and this is the perfect base from which to do so. It’s an ideal lock up and leave property that feels very secure. However, the people I’ve met are so wonderfully friendly that I equally love being at home. There’s a great community that I’m happy being a part of.”
Ian concludes by saying: “Midhurst is such a concealed gem of a location that has it all: Cowdray Polo, Goodwood, plenty of places to walk and ride my motorbike, but you’re less than an hour from Central London too. It feels like West Sussex’s best kept secret.”
