Leading heritage and new build developer, City & Country, has officially launched two new show homes at its landmark Factory No.1 development in Bedminster, Bristol.
The first show home located on the first floor of Watkins House, a two-bedroom apartment brings a refreshing take on modern living with carefully curated Scandinavian inspired interiors. Nordic countries are known for being the happiest in the world[1], which can be attributed to a lifestyle based on community, connection, simplicity and contentment.
There is a Swedish concept called ‘Lagom’, which means ‘just the right amount’, referring to balance and moderation. This ethos has been used to inspire the layout of one of the new show homes, adopting ‘just the right amount’ of earthy accents to embody the Scandinavian design.
Thoughtfully designed by the in-house interior design team at City & Country, this show home is designed with an open plan living area, softened with earthy rust tones that add depth and comfort, with rust coloured artwork and cushions to match. The bedroom offers a more indulgent design with rich burnt caramel hues including a cinnamon velvet upholstered bed and brown rattan bedside tables. Natural wooden textures and bronze accents echo the colour palette throughout the home.
Clementine Collins, Interior Designer at City & Country, says: “We wanted to create a harmonious flow of colour and texture throughout the apartment, something that feels cohesive, relaxed and on trend. The use of warm rust and caramel tones layered over natural materials brings a sense of balance and sophistication that really elevates the home’s interior.”
Clementine adds: “Featuring tones of rust and sage whilst keeping the design clean and calming is perfect for those who love modern design with a soft, organic edge. We opted for an L-shape sofa in the living room in a soft cream colour, along with a bronze coffee table to match the bronze dining table with rust-coloured seats. To keep the theme consistent throughout we have added the rust-coloured cushions and throws in the living area and the bedroom.”
The Nordic design has been carried all the way through the house, with the terrace forming an extension of the living area. Thoughtfully styled with a classic bistro set and two olive trees, the terrace offers a peaceful spot to socialise and reflects the same earthy interiors found throughout the home.
The second show home, a two-bedroom apartment located on second floor of Watkins House, takes a different design approach with sleek minimalism at its core. The interiors are styled in a refined palette of creams and blacks, enhanced with subtle brass accents that add warmth and a sense of elegance. This home creates a calm, uncluttered environment that feels both modern and timeless.
The open-plan living room features a spacious cream left-hand corner sofa, perfectly complemented by black and beige cushions that tie in with the artwork displayed on the walls. A black side table and central coffee table, both positioned on a cream rug, bring definition to the space. With accents of brass on the light above and the two lamps within the room add touches of sophistication.
Clementine comments: “For this show home, we wanted to celebrate the beauty of minimalism by using a scaled-back palette of cream, black and brass. The thoughtful detailing allows each piece to stand out, while still creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.”
In the bedrooms, the minimalist aesthetic continues. The main bedroom features a monochrome velvet bed as its centrepiece, framed black rattan bedside tables and a brass pendant light. With monochrome artwork on the wall complimenting the matching cushions on the bed, bringing together the minimalist palette with a sense of elegance.
The second bedroom offers a soft contrast, with an upholstered bed in taupe velvet dressed in champagne coloured bedding and cushions. The lighter furniture makes this space feel brighter. Together, these bedrooms create a harmonious balance of sophistication and effortless comfort.
Shelley West, Group Sales and Marketing Director at City & Country, concludes: “Our in-house interior design team at City & Country work tirelessly to ensure the final touches on our homes are well thought out and on trend. The designers are experts in their trade and know exactly what appeals to the large number of Millennial and Gen Z buyers we see at Factory No.1.
“Having a show home for aspiring buyers to view is so important, a lot of people we meet are looking for their first home and haven’t had the opportunity to decorate before and are seeking inspiration. The craftsmanship that goes into our show home is a chance to see how our designers have optimised the space. The two new show homes demonstrate City & Country’s commitment to design excellence and attention to detail, all while honouring the unique character of the historic Factory No.1 site.”
Situated on the site of the former Imperial Tobacco Factory, on East Street, Factory No.1 is just a short distance from North Street and its variety of independent shops and eateries.
A selection of one and two-bedroom new build apartments are available at Factory No.1. Priced at £250,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. The show home is available to visit daily from 10am-5pm. For more information, call 01174 535 155 or visit www.cityandcountry.co.uk
