Illustrator Finds Picturesque Second Home At The General

John Hallett, an illustrator, and his wife Tessa who works in PR, have recently purchased an apartment at The General, Bristol.

The couple, who decided to relocate from Kent to Bristol after their children had left their family home, also have a holiday home in Cornwall. John comments: “With our children leaving the family home we wanted to move West, which is where I grew up. Tessa and I also have family and friends in the area. We have a cottage by the sea in Cornwall, and buying an apartment at The General means that we have the best of both worlds: living and working in a vibrant city with a holiday retreat on the coast.”

With one of their children living in Bristol already, John and Tessa have been enjoying the city. Tessa says: “Our son and daughter-in-law currently live in Bristol, so we know the area very well and we are very happy to have our main base at The General. The size of the apartment is perfect for us and we have our own personal courtyard which is lovely. The location is perfect and we like being close to the waterways and the city life.”

John comments: “Tessa and I can see ourselves living here for a long time; we have already recommended The General to our friends so perhaps we will see even more friendly faces in the Bristol area soon. City & Country was hugely helpful and efficient in making our wishes come true and to find a home in such a unique building in a wonderful setting is very exciting for us both.”

The General, (the former Bristol General Hospital which has been restored and converted by heritage experts City & Country), is Bristol’s newest development of luxury apartments and houses. Located in the heart of Redcliffe on Bristol’s popular harbourside, the development includes new and converted apartments and houses, together with a collection of highly individual waterfront commercial units.

Ideally located, The General is a short walk from Bristol City Centre and within easy walking distance of Temple Meads Station making it ideal for commuters to both Bristol and London, investors, downsizers and those looking to be close to local amenities.

Property specifications include: contemporary linear kitchens from Ballerina, Neff stainless steel appliances and luxurious bathrooms by Laufen. Original features that have been retained and restored include unique joinery, ironmongery, plaster mouldings and in certain apartments parquet flooring.
