City & Country celebrates the Commonwealth turning 75

City & Country was honoured to join leading industry figures from across the Commonwealth who gathered in the historic Cloisters of Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 9th October, as an official partner of The Commonwealth at 75.

The launch event was hosted by royal correspondent Russell Myers, with more than 500 guests in attendance, including dignitaries from a wide range of official Commonwealth organisations and High Commissions. Speakers at the event included high-profile figures such as Canon Anthony Ball of Westminster Abbey, Lord Marland of Odstock, and Ransford Smith CD, former Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General. A special performance of a commissioned piece of music by The Commonwealth Resounds complemented the celebrations.

Wayne Douglas, Managing Director at City & Country, commented: “We were honoured to be part of the prestigious celebrations earlier this month and mark this significant anniversary. At City & Country, we truly support the 16 core beliefs that make up the Charter of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is an inspirational organisation, symbolising the unity, diversity, and shared values of the 56 countries committed to building a resilient and common future worldwide.”

Produced by St James’s House in partnership with The History of Parliament Trust, The Commonwealth at 75 explores the origins, histories, and impacts of the association, and celebrates the ideas, individuals, and organisations that have contributed to its past and present successes, while considering the challenges and opportunities ahead. The book launch coincides with King Charles III’s appointment as Head of the Commonwealth.

Richard Freed, founder of St James’s House, added: “We’re delighted to be launching this prestigious publication, which pays tribute to the Commonwealth and its member states. The 75th anniversary offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s past, present, and future.”

City & Country’s work is featured in The Commonwealth at 75 for its efforts in converting some of the UK’s most extraordinary period buildings into outstanding modern homes.
