New release of homes at Manningtree Park due to demand
More Than 800 New Homes Planned at Springfield University in London
More than 800 new homes will be built in the former grounds and historic buildings of Springfield Hospital in South West London, after plans for a revamp of the site were approved.
Heritage developer City & Country will transform the hospital’s impressive array of redundant listed buildings into new apartments, with Barratt London building new homes in the hospital’s surrounding grounds. Together the two developers will be creating an exciting new address for South West London.
The new homes form a key element of the masterplan for the site, which has been developed by South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG).
The masterplan will also provide:
- World class mental health inpatient facilities
- A 32-acre public park
- Community shops and a café
- Extensive community healthcare
- Land to be made available for a new school
- More than £5m for new transport facilities
City & Country will be using its extensive listed building expertise to transform the main Grade II listed hospital building and the hospital’s late 19th century Chapel and Ballroom, as well as Glenburnie Lodge; a two-storey gatehouse adjoining the Glenburnie Road entrance.

Over the last ten years SWLSTG has been working with patients, carers and the local community to create a new vision for the hospital. This huge milestone in the Trust’s Estate Modernisation Programme marks a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way the Trust delivers mental health services for 1.1m south west Londoners.
SWLSTG has appointed Springfield and Tolworth Estate Partnership (a 50/50 partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures Ltd and Kajima Partnerships) as the principal developer of the site.
