Having lived his entire life in West Edinburgh, James Miller and his wife knew that they didn’t want to leave the city when they downsized. With their existing home too much to maintain, James began his search for something easier to manage, but never dreamed that the building he had been driving past hundreds of times over the years would be that property.
Mr Miller, who is in his 80s, explains: “My wife had a stroke five years ago, and so with all the maintenance of the home and garden we’d enjoyed for years now just on my shoulders, it became too arduous. I saw that The Playfair was being renovated and so kept my eye on the building works to check out its potential as somewhere to downsize to.”
He continues: “I viewed the development with my son and his wife, and while I originally looked for a two-bedroom apartment, the three-bedroom property in the corner really caught my eye. It has views across the Pentland Hills, which I had for 60 years and facing south and west it gets the best of the little sunshine we get here in Scotland! Everything being fully-fitted in the kitchens and bathrooms meant we could move straight in, but it also has space for much that we had accumulated over the years, meaning it felt like home straight away.
“I have been very impressed with the care which has been taken by City & Country to preserve the original features of the building, and the service from the sales and after sales teams has been great, exactly what you would expect in a development of this calibre. Now I am looking forward to settling in to my new flat and having new neighbours to pass the time of day with. If I want to go into town the bus stop is only a short stroll away, but there are shops, a medical centre and supermarkets not too far away either.”
James concludes: “I couldn’t be happier with my home at The Playfair, and that really sunk in when one of my daughters put a photo of the building on Facebook with the caption ‘look what my dad has downsized to’.”
