Gilston Park
Gilston Park House is an outstanding Victorian Country House situated in an elevated position with views across the English countryside. The building was originally constructed in 1852 in a Tudor style with Gothic touches, subsequently altered and extended in 1903, and in recent years it had become the offices of a large pharmaceutical company.
The quality of the historic design by Phillip Hardwick and construction has led to a Grade II* Listing with a requirement for the proposed development to be approved by English Heritage in addition to the Local Planning Authority.
The design of the conversion took great imagination and ingenuity. The restrictions as a result of the Grade II* Listing made the task that much harder and the result that much more satisfying for all those involved.
City & Country reinstatement of the State Rooms, repaired the original oak panelling, ornate doors and cupboards and re-creation of sections missing, damaged or required for matching. Restoration of the clock repair, Victorian Conservatory and Grotto. The original fireplaces were restored and new sympathetic fireplaces inserted in original openings.
Each home is unique in terms of features and style and entering each one presents a further surprise.
Awards: 2001, What House? Awards, Gold Award for Best Renovation
