INTRODUCTION

The Stables, Gilston ‘The Stables’ at Gilston were the second phase of the Gold Award winning renovation and conversion of the main mansion known as Gilston Park House.

The single storey Listed building is believed to date back to the mid 19th Century, originally serving the main estate as stabling. Over recent years it had fallen into disrepair, having most recently been used as overspill offices by the former owners.

Through the incorporation of a small extension, mirroring the existing shape of the building, a scheme was created by City & Country forming eight 2-bedroom barn-style cottages, maximising the use of the existing building and creating more affordable homes within a very expensive rural location.

Testimonial
"The key I think to finding a successful use for historic buildings is to combine pragmatism with imagination, and to support that process with expertise and sensitivity. The success which City & Country has brought to some very difficult buildings shows that their approach is not, like other developers to push for a one-size-fits-all solution, but to tailor their work in a way which retains all the character of those buildings while respecting the built heritage."

Dr Lee Proseer, Curator (Historic Buildings), Kensington Palace and Kew Palace
