The future of an A-listed Edinburgh landmark has finally been decided. Having lain empty for several years, Donaldson’s College – a palatial 1850s William Playfair – designed building that started life as a hospital for orphans – is to be converted into apartments, through a deal struck by Cala Homes and City & Country. A new planning application is still to be submitted, but past plans have allowed for 49 homes in the main building and 64 in the grounds.
