Multi-award-winning heritage developer, City & Country, is delivering an outstanding range of restored and new-build homes at the former site of Bristol General Hospital.
The building is situated on the south side of the River Avon, in the heart of Redcliffe –a central area with a growing reputation and vast regenerative plans. The listed building is currently undergoing extensive renovations, which once complete will offer a selection of stylish one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Demolition and asbestos removal is nearing completion, allowing the renovation to begin. Final demolition work will occur during the last phase in November, when the water tak that is currently situated on top of the roof will be removed.
The first of the apartments are due for completion in January 2015, with a full site completion date scheduled for November 2017.
Meanwhile, the building’s exterior windows and stonework will be restored and cleaned, whilst the hospital’s original external stone fountain will be relocated to its original position in the central courtyard and restored to full working condition.
To maximise space, an underground car park is also being constructed to provide concealed parking for residents. When complete, the car park will house approximately 115 spaces.
Helen Moore, City & Country Managing Director says, “We are delighted that our first major project in the South West Is in tis vibrant city. The General is a wonderful building which boasts a fantastic waterfront location and we are looking forward to delivering a range of outstanding restoration and new-build homes. When completely restored, the true beauty of The General will be revealed. There are many highly unique and individual characteristics of the building that will be restored and then enhanced by the reinstatement of some of the original features.
