Bristol’s property market is soon to have a serious injection of industrial-chic with the unveiling of The Iron Foundry, sixteen distinctive new apartments which overlook the waterside adjacent to The General.
Built by City & Country, the award winning developers of The General, these new apartments will be located in a metropolitan steel and glass structure - the design of the building reflects the industrial past of the former buildings which once stood on the site adjacent to the Grade II listed Bristol General Hospital.
The stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments will be the first newly built homes at the former hospital site, and range in size from 660 sq ft for a luxurious one bedroom apartment to 2,212 sq ft for the three bedroom penthouse duplex with outstanding views across the Bristol skyline. Built over five storeys, all but one of the apartments feature large private balconies or terraces, offering sweeping views over the Bathurst Basin, the city centre and beyond to the countryside.
These contemporary properties will feature an urban-themed colour palette including grey and monochromatic tones and shades, offset against the shimmering glass that surrounds the building. Each apartment features a premium specification, and will be served by private lift access from the underground car park beneath the building.
Two duplex penthouse apartments, located on the fourth and fifth floors, are set to attract major interest. These three bedroom homes possess a breathtaking open plan living space set within a glazed atrium which will be flooded with natural light year round.
Vicky Dudbridge, Associate Director at Savills Bristol, is expecting The Iron Foundry to provide some of the most coveted homes throughout the city. She comments:
“We have already seen the outstanding sales success of the converted properties at The General, but The Iron Foundry is an entirely different proposition to those historic homes. These luxurious apartments are unique to the Bristol property market and will offer a standard of contemporary, city centre living not seen before. The new apartments will undoubtedly appeal to professionals looking for a home in one of the most desirable addresses in Bristol. We are also expecting interest from downsizers looking for a convenient, city centre property, and buy to let investors who can take advantage of the rapidly growing profile of the area and its surrounds.”
The Iron Foundry will follow recent sales success at The General, which has been expertly restored and converted by City & Country into a number of sought after period properties.
In January, Casamia, The Sunday Times 4th Best Restaurant in the UK, became The General’s first commercial premises to open, a major landmark in the redevelopment of the majestic building. Casamia is set to open a pizzeria and tapas restaurant at the Lower Guinea Street later this year, forming a vibrant hub of social activity and an exciting new gastronomic destination within the city.
