City & Country is now offering the equity share part of Help to Buy which was launched in April this year. Available on properties valued up to £600,000, Help to Buy provides up to 20% of the price of the property in the form of an equity loan from the government. The buyer has to provide a deposit of at least 5% and find a mortgage for 75% of the property price. There’s no interest on the equity loan for the first five years.
There are two current developments from the company where Help to Buy is available:
- The Galleries, Brentwood, Essex - a Victorian gothic former asylum has been transformed into new homes and is just a few minutes away from the centre of the poplar Essex commuter town. Two-bedroom apartments
start at £225,000.
- The Garden Quarter, Caversfield, Oxfordshire - the 23-acre RAF Bicester site has 18 listed buildings on it and now offers a mix of apartments and cottages, with prices starting at £250,000.
Helen Moore, Managing Director at City & Country, says: “We are delighted to be offering Help to Buy at our developments and to be able to give our customers the opportunity to live within one of our aspirational and unique Grade II-listed properties with a relatively small deposit. We appreciate that many buyers in today’s climate cannot afford to buy or move due to significant deposit requirements that are out of their reach.
“The Help to Buy scheme is an excellent way for City & Country to assist our customers, as they will not only require a 5% deposit and pay just 80% of the market price today. We have already secured reservations at both developments to young first-time buyers who would otherwise not be able to make their first step onto the property ladder. They have been absolutely delighted that purchasing through Help to Buy has allowed them to acquire a truly individual listed property at a more affordable price.”
