New reports from Lloyds bank claim
that around 43% of downsizers want a smaller property to help support their
retirement plans and reduce bills. However downsizing does not mean downgrading
your lifestyle. In fact, as Robert and Christine Adams have found, downsizing
from a larger property can considerably improve it.
David and Christine have lived in
Bicester for 30 years and have two grown up children who have recently flown
the nest. Their four bedroom house was
too much, but they were concerned that downsizing would mean having to
compromise on everything. They were
determined to stay in the same location and still have outside space and
parking. They found out about The Garden Quarter in Bicester through an online
search and immediately enquired about two bed cottages.
David comments: “Having brought up
our family in Bicester we are very much a part of the community and we really
didn’t want to leave it behind.
Downsizing to The Garden Quarter has meant that we have not compromised
on anything; in fact we have gained a lot from the move.”
The couple were determined to stay
away from new build developments which, whilst offering space and quality,
often lack character. The Garden Quarter
occupies part of what was once a major World War II RAF base where the Grade II
listed buildings have been sympathetically restored and converted into a mix of
houses, cottages and apartments. They
found the development to be steeped in character and history all situated in
beautifully maintained landscaped parkland - offering everything they were
Christine comments: “The real draw at
The Garden Quarter was unusual nature of the build. We wanted to find somewhere quirky which had
an interesting story behind it but that still had the luxuries associated with a
brand new home. The Garden Quarter has
offered us everything we could want and a lot more. There is also a fantastic
community within the development; a mixture of downsizers, young professionals
and families which is lovely to see and be a part of.”
David and Christine were among the
first to move into the new homes at The Garden Quarter and couldn’t be
happier. For them downsizing has not meant
downgrading and they are looking forward to enjoying their retirement.
Located on the northern edge of
Bicester and offering easy access to the High Street and the stylish boutiques,
cafes and restaurants of Bicester Village, The Garden Quarter is also within 15
miles of Oxford and 17 miles of Aylesbury.
Prices at The Garden Quarter start
at £182,500 for a one-bedroom property, £199,500 for a two bedroom property and
£295,000 for a three bedroom property.
