Transport and Sustainability
Transport
Our proposals for Kings Drive do not differ greatly from the previously approved schemes. Improvements to the Kings Drive-A286 junction to make access safer and easier for residents include:
- Resurfacing the junction with new anti-skid surface
- Providing a new footpath on the eastern side of the junction
- Regenerating the bus shelter on the A286 to complement the existing woodland
We are also proposing a range of measures to reduce reliance on car journeys in and around the estate:
- A new, regular morning and evening mini-bus service for residents and the estate’s neighbours, serving the nearby train station and local towns
- Safe and secure cycle storage for residents and visitors. Cycle racks will also be provided in Midhurst town centre where possible
- A range of new facilities will be provided on the estate to reduce the need for residents to travel, such as a small convenience store, a café, and extensive provision for home working
- Green walks and footpaths from the estate to the wider area to encourage a healthy lifestyle
Sustainability
Converting the historic buildings into new homes will extend the life of these Grade II and Grade II* listed, architecturally rich buildings.
We are aiming to achieve an EcoHomes Very Good standard for the homes within the Sanatorium and other converted historic buildings. These homes will be fitted with high efficiency boilers to reduce their environmental impact and heating costs.
Our new build homes will be designed to achieve level three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the national standard for sustainable design and construction of new homes. They will include renewable energy measures that will reduce overall emissions of carbon dioxide from the new development by at least 10%:
- Solar power technologies and wood burning stoves in the houses
- Biomass boilers in the apartments
Both new build and converted homes will have:
- Fittings to promote efficient use of water and reduce wastage
- 75% energy efficient light fittings
- Recycling facilities
- High levels of insulation
