How We Responded to Your Comments

The final proposals we have brought forward incorporate a number of amendments to our original plans, which we exhibited at the King Edward VII hospital Estate in June.  These initial plans were warmly received, with at least 80% of exhibition attendees who completed a questionnaire describing each aspect of City & Country Group’s proposals as ‘very important’ or ‘important’ and our project team worked hard over the summer to accommodate, where possible, comments and suggestions from the local community and stakeholder groups.

The improvements to our plans include:

  • Greater landscaping on King’s Drive approach, as well as providing passing bays which will not require the removal of any trees along the road
  • A reduction in the number of cottages built near the Engine House and a re-design of the layout to minimise disturbance to neighbouring Hurst Park residents
  • Access to the three proposed Pine Walk properties now relocated to the north off Scotland Lane to preserve the integrity of Hurst Park residents’ access
  • Relocation of the East Courtyard apartments further away from the site boundary and improved screening to create a superior view for nearby residents
  • The removal of the eastern measured walk to ensure against any disturbance to nearby residents
  • The inclusion of consulting rooms in the main sanatorium building, alongside the pool and gym, for use by healthcare professionals
  • The provision of communal rooms in the main sanatorium building, as well as a shop and café in the chapel
  • Enhanced landscaping on King’s Green and the opening up of the top of the crescent to allow the woodland to continue down to the main sanatorium building
  • A redesign of the Woodland houses to a contemporary design sympathetic to neighbouring buildings, using local materials such as wood, stone and tile

These are in addition to the planned improvements to the Kings Drive / A286 junction.
