New Build Critical to Plans Viability- Bristol General Hospital

Following our public consultation event earlier this week, you published an article – ‘Glass Tower to Loom Over City’ – and included an image that was supposed to represent one of our potential design solutions

I am writing to state clearly that this was not one of our images – though we supplied a selection – it was seen appropriate to create an alternative ghastly unrepresentative mock-up.

We are hugely appreciative of the time and effort made by so many local people and interest groups – which has already informed our thinking, planning and design – to help us reach the most appropriate solution for the Bristol General Hospital.

We remain committed to our aim to breathe new life into the hospital while at the same time preserving and restoring the buildings’ unique historic character. As you will be aware, new buildings are critical to the viability of the proposals and were ‘in principle’ agreed through the development brief process. The critical issue is to ensure the scale and style of those buildings is appropriate. We are in the process now of evaluating feedback received from our events earlier this week and look forward to receiving more comments over the next few weeks.

As your article did make clear, this is a consultation process and we continue to welcome feedback and views.
