City & Country Group, the award-winning restoration and conservation specialist, is pleased to confirm the next round of public exhibitions on the redevelopment of the historic Bristol General Hospital.
The forthcoming exhibitions will be the third in a series of public engagement events City & Country have held with the local community since agreeing terms with the University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust earlier this year to purchase the site, once the hospital facilities have moved to their new home.
The site contains a number of historic buildings, including the Grade II listed former lodge and main hospital gates on Guinea Street, as well as an array of listed Victorian buildings, which have been added to the site at later stages.
The exhibition will be an opportunity for City & Country to showcase its revised masterplan for the General Hospital site, which has been informed by the previous consultation events the developer has held with the local community, key stakeholders and Bristol City Council since September of last year. Features such as the provision of on site parking, preservation of green spaces and the height of the proposed new buildings have been directly addressed in the revised plans.
Following the exhibition, City & Country is scheduled to submit a planning application for the site to Bristol City Council in mid February.
The response from local community representatives and residents living close to the hospital has been positive, with over 55% of respondents stating that they support the scheme when responding to City & Country’s initial masterplan in November of last year. City & Country Group intends to continue working closely with the local community throughout the redevelopment.
Helen Moore, Residential Managing Director for City & Country Group, said:
“Having spent many months carefully studying the site and its collection of historic buildings, our expert design team has developed a comprehensive masterplan for Bristol General Hospital that will sensitively restore this much loved local heritage asset. We have worked hard to respond to the feedback we have received at the numerous events held with the local community in recent months, and have amended our proposals where possible to ensure that our vision for the General Hospital reflects the aspirations of local residents.
City & Country Group’s proposals represent a unique opportunity to secure the future of this iconic and historic landmark, and will ensure that they are preserved for the benefit of future generations. We would like to thank all who have participated in the consultation process thus far, and look forward to meeting with the community once again at Thursday’s event.”
